I'd recently gotten a shoutout from Black Blog Lover. So, she takes the blogs that she finds unique and posts them on her site. I highly suggest that you "Follow Her", after all, if you want to show your blog off then she's GREAT at doing that. She's new as well, so the likelihood of you getting featured will be in your favor. At the very least, it's a great site to network between blog owners. Speaking of networks...
--How about a channel? See, in NYC, Bloomberg is shutting a few public schools down in light of poor performance and economic demand (Brooklyn's Paul Robeson High School among them). This has me thinking about the HBO show, "Kindergarten".
"Kindergarten" is a series that goes through the classes of K-1 students. What they learn. How they spend recess. Of course, you can also see how the teachers teach.
Now, I'm thinking... why not apply that to high school? What if we all had local channels in the towns and cities where we live that showcase high school students and teachers doing what they do. Would this add pressure to the teachers, and force them to really give their all? Would this just be viewed at as entertainment... as another reality show channel?
Would anyone care to watch at all?
Also, do we film EVERYTHING that goes on? Do we film Spanish Class? Lunch? Assemblies?
Call me crazy but I think that given enough time, this really would go a long way in terms of improving parent involvement in their child's schools and improving the quality of education our children are getting. Especially when the high school dropout rate could stand to be better where most communities are concerned.
Well, starting with this post, I'll be listing one positive thing about myself until I've mentioned 30. I got this exercise from BrownEyedPanther, a new member of our family. Speaking of which, why not stop by and say "hello" to her? She's only a click away.

5 OF YOUR THOUGHTS PRESSED:
You're a great creative writer, good post. I definitely think that if there was such a reality show, the quality of education would improve. Principals don't want to make their school look bad, that can reflect poorly on the whole state or country. I would hope that if there was a show like this, parents would care a bit more && become more active via PTAs.
*blushing* I'm glad you're trying the exercise. I can't wait to read what else you come up with.
Does this sound like a great idea? Absolutely.
As you mentioned it will make parents more involved. If I were a parent I'd definitely be interested in seeing what my children experience while at school. This not only would help me to become involved, but it would also cause teachers and the administration to be more accountable.
It is almost a double edge sword. Teachers aren't paid as much as they deserve, so some don't work as hard as they should. And instead of solving the issue, which is implement programs to increase the overall score, the school is forced to close.
No one is winning in this situation. *sigh*
Warm welcomes to Supastarrr and BrownEyedPanther, both very lovely ladies.
That would certainly be the best outcome that arises from this. I actually got this idea on an episode of The Simpsons, where the family gets access to all kind of channels and Homer just spends days on the couch ...just watching Cable TV.
--I know that sounds like EVERY episode, but this was a special one, haha. [@ Supastarrr]
"I'm glad you're trying the exercise. I can't wait to read what else you come up with."
I always keep my word, besides I think it's growing on me. Haven't noticed any MAJOR changes yet but it's still early. No rush.
Yeah, teacher pay is one of many things that could help remedy the situation. Higher pay leads to a wider range of skilled hirees.
And you're on the button. NOBODY wins when a school is forced to shut down. A real shame. [@ BrownEyedPanther]
I can see it now, K. Michel! Kids profiling, hamming, cutting up for the cameras just as the women do on The Real Housewives series, or For the Love of Ray J., et al.
I also think it would make parents want to become more involved. However, we are talking teens here. This is that time of life where they are not yet adult, but not really children either. They want privacy, autonomy, etc. I know this, the more involved my Mom got with my sister's education, the more often my sister ran away from home.
As always, your creative thinking makes me think outside the box. This is a great topic. America needs to explore new ways to encourage successful education.
You make really good points. That type of process would be very successful in improving our school systems. Great insight on that!
Thanks for the blog love too :)
Blessings!
